The warmer weather, singing birds and sprouting plants point to more than just the arrival of Spring! March-June are our busiest months for working with schools and running educational activities on the reserve.

Langholm Nursery have been taking part in a range of different activities with our Education Officer. During their first session they were planting some tree saplings to grow in their outside area. This will add some natural greenery, as well as providing the opportunity to watch the trees grow and change through the seasons, and once the trees are too big for the pots, they will be moved to new homes on the Nature Reserve!

They have also had a fire lighting demonstration, complete with toasting marshmallows; searched in the local park for minibeasts, and completed a stream dip to learn about river wildlife and life cycles! Running sessions with local children starting from Nursery age, means that we are able to engage them from a younger age, helping them to connect with and learn about local wildlife and the Tarras Valley project and inspire an interest that will hopefully last a lifetime!
